This house was designed and built in 1980 for an adventurous young woman. It was 1200 sf. She sold the house to a retired couple in the ’90’s and I designed a 2500 sf addition for them. The house came on the market again in 2023. Most of the photos I was able to take from Zillow.com, which I appreciate because I never got around to photographing the place. After over 40 years, the house is in remarkable shape. Even the natural redwood siding has held up well.
This home is off the grid, way out in the hills. Besides preparing the drawings for this post and beam hillside home, I ran the construction crew and worked as a carpenter. Except for the entry doors, all the wood used in the house was felled, milled and prepared on the site. The original house, shown in the photos, was 1,200 sf. The homestead was sold several years later and the new owners hired me to design a two story addition on the uphill side (see the last 3 drawings).
Project Year: 1980 & 1994 (addition)
